What published reviews found

Tom's Hardware's Founders Edition review put the RTX 5070 about 20% ahead of the RTX 4070 overall, noting that board power rose from 200W to 250W. It also cautioned that Multi Frame Generation inflates benchmark numbers, and said it may feel closer to 30% to 40% faster in play than the huge percentages in charts.

GamersNexus reported a wider spread: about 30% over the RTX 4070 in Final Fantasy XIV at 1440p but only 9.6% in Starfield at 1080p, with the card roughly tying the RTX 4070 Ti. It directly disputed NVIDIA's claim that the 5070 with Multi Frame Generation equals an RTX 4090. In Cyberpunk 2077 at RT Ultra, GamersNexus recorded PC latency of 500 to 720ms on the 5070 with 4x Multi Frame Generation, against about 51ms on the 4090. PCGamesN likewise reported that the 4090 stays faster in most conventional scenarios.

Tom's Guide compared the card to the RTX 4070 Super at 1440p and found gains small or absent in places: 41fps versus 44fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing at Ultra, but 171fps versus 136fps in Forza Horizon 5. It called the card "good, but not great," pointed to the 12GB of VRAM and to a U.S. average retail price near $750 at the time, and said AMD's RX 9070 offered better value. TechSpot's product page lists an average critic score of 66 out of 100 across eight reviews and describes the card as a refreshed RTX 4070 Super at a lower MSRP.

Price and availability

The launch MSRP was $549, which Tom's Guide lists as $50 below the RTX 4070 Super's $599 launch price. Several reviewers doubted that MSRP models would be easy to find, and GamersNexus said board partners had largely dropped them.

Street prices have varied widely. Videocardprices.com listed $635.99 on Amazon and $629 at Newegg on July 14, 2026. GPUDeals showed $742 on eBay and $857 on Amazon on October 6, 2026. Check current listings before buying.

Who it's for

The RTX 5070 suits a 1440p gaming PC where DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation matter and the buyer is coming from an RTX 20-series, RTX 30-series or older card. The GamersNexus and Tom's Guide numbers suggest it is not a compelling upgrade for owners of the RTX 4070 or 4070 Super.

Skip it if you already own an RTX 4070 Super or similar, if you want more than 12GB of VRAM, or if the street price is far above $549. The RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT both carry 16GB, and the previous-generation RTX 4070 is the cheaper step down. See the best GPU deals page for current offers.

Bottom line

The RTX 5070 is a modest step over the RTX 4070 family, with faster memory, DLSS 4 and a lower launch MSRP, but the published reviews are clear that it does not match an RTX 4090. Its 12GB of VRAM and high street prices weigh against it. It is a reasonable 1440p card at or near $549, and a harder sell at the prices tracked in 2026.
